Piano tuner and technician in Lausanne
Tuning, regulation and repair of upright and grand pianos at your home in Lausanne and the surrounding communes. Service in English.

Tuning a piano in Lausanne
I tune upright and grand pianos in Lausanne and in the communes around it: Pully, Lutry, Paudex, Belmont, Épalinges, Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, Prilly, Renens, Crissier, Écublens and Bussigny. The visit takes place at your home, and a tuning usually lasts one to two hours depending on the condition of the instrument.
Each string is brought to pitch, the unisons are balanced so that the two or three strings of a note sound as one, and the stability of the tuning is checked before I leave. My workshop in Le Vaud is about half an hour away, and appointments are usually available within 2 to 4 days.
Apartments, stairs and parking
Most pianos in Lausanne live in apartments, often on a hillside street. A tuning is done on site, whatever the floor, so stairs are not a problem for me. When you book, please tell me about parking: a visitor space saves time for everyone.
Moving a piano is a different matter. Narrow staircases and small lifts call for proper equipment, and I organise and carry out the transport myself, on quote; my guide to moving a piano (in French) explains how to plan it, and why the first tuning should wait one to two months after the move.
Students, teachers and families
Lausanne is a city of students and musicians. A piano played several hours a day, by a student preparing an exam or a teacher giving lessons, needs two tunings a year and a regular check of the action. A family piano is normally tuned once a year.
Before an exam or an audition, book the tuning a few days ahead rather than on the morning itself, so that the tuning has time to settle. Read tuning before an audition (in French).
Dry air in winter
Central heating in apartment buildings dries the air from October to April. The soundboard shrinks, the pitch drops, and keys can become noisy. A stable humidity between 40 % and 60 %, checked with a simple hygrometer, keeps a piano in tune for longer. I wrote a guide on humidity and heating (in French).
Regulation, voicing and repair
When the touch becomes uneven, a key stays down or a pedal squeaks, the action needs regulation. When the sound has become hard or harsh, the hammer felts need voicing. Small repairs are done at your home. Larger work, such as restringing or work on the soundboard and the bridge, is carried out at my workshop; I organise and carry out the transport myself, and every quote follows an inspection at your home.
Areas around Lausanne
I serve Lausanne, the western communes and Lavaux, at the same price everywhere. I also work along the lake, from Geneva and Nyon to Montreux and Vevey, and in Fribourg, Neuchâtel and French-speaking Valais.
